Repairs and Finishing
A perfect wall in off shutter concrete is one of the most desirable finishes in the modern home, but most architects and designers avoid off shutter surfaces because they are so difficult to do. There is almost always one or another imperfection: Not many people in the industry know that with the right skills and expertise, these issues can be fixed.
- Honeycombing: the concrete was too viscous or not vibrated right leaving a rough and pitted surface. We colour match and fill with our own formulated fillers.
- Grout loss: Water escaped from the shuttering. Usually at the joints, leaving dark discolorations at the seams (too much is ugly). We fill and overlay to match the colour around the blemishing.
- Kicking out: When one shutter board moves out of alignment with the others during the robust action of the casting process, resulting in a “step”, or level change on the surface. This requires a “build out” with a matching product as strong as concrete.
- Over vibration or “poker burn” resulting in an overall patchy look. We use blending techniques with our own proprietary cementitious wash resistant paint-on, sand back product.
- One panel does not match in colour to the others: This often happens. We have the solution.
